This was developed as a preparatory course for the activated sludge certification exam as well as a refresher for certified operators. Operators will be engaged in active classroom discussion as well as small group exercises. Operators will be provided, in advance of the training dates, with vocabulary and other training material. Successful students will familiarize themselves with this material before the classroom training.

The registration includes the following: interactive instruction and handouts explaining the activated sludge process, exam taking skills and practice, math drills, general knowledge review, concept reinforcement, confidence building, homework, and a supportive learning environment.

This course is intended to inform operators of small drinking water systems of regulations regarding the Revised Total Coliform Rule (RTCR) and the Lead & Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). Through lecture, discussion, and activities, operators will learn about the requirements under both rules, while also learning about the associated return to compliance measures for violations incurred. This course will also touch on the expectations of third-party representation of drinking water operations. Attendees will be given the tools on how to locate state and federal resources & guidance to maintain compliance. Speakers for this training will include RCAP Solutions technical assistance providers, as well as staff from NJDEP's Division of Water Supply. Although this training is intended for small drinking water systems and operators who operate them, all who are interested are welcome to join us for this two-day training session. Please note that continuing education credits (TCHs) are pending submission and approval by the NJDEP. Pursuant to approval, it is required to attend both sessions to receive TCH credit.

Drinking water safety cannot be taken for granted. There are several threats to drinking water as improperly disposed of chemicals, animal wastes, pesticides, human threats, and naturally occurring substances can all contaminate drinking water. Likewise, drinking water that is not properly treated or disinfected, may also pose a health risk.

The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) is the main regulation tasked with ensuring drinking water quality and hence protecting public health. In the US Virgin Islands, the SDWA is applied to any public water system that serves water with at least 8 service connections or serves an average of at least 20 people for at least 60 days a year. There are almost 300 public water systems in the USVI, and all have to comply with the requirements of the SDWA.
